Laser CNC Combines Additive and Subtractive Machining Okuma's MU-8000V Laser EX combines laser additive technol- ogy with subtractive machining capabilities. This multitasking CNC machine implements laser metal deposition (LMD) technology with the ability to cut unique parts of many different sizes and shapes. LMD supplies powder from nozzles and performs laser melting and bonding to the parent mate- rial. This allows for various types of materials to be combined and layered, in addition to the possibility of 3D fabrication and cladding. Parts can also be repaired and inspected throughout production, and a variable control of laser spot diameters (diameter of 0.4 to 8.5 mm) are said to increase efficiency and resolution. :: Okuma America Corp., 704-588-7000, okuma.com PRODUCTS productionmachining.com :: 47 Software Reduces Measurement Time Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence's PC-DMIS 2018 R1 measurement software allows users to convert AutoFeatures to points or use the measured hits for new constructions and dimensions, available for plane, circle and cylinder AutoFeatures. By converting each hit to a vec- tor point, the optimized path can be used to enhance the order of point measurement, reducing the number of probe tip changes and overall measurement time. Support for Q-DAS Traces enables analysis of PC-DMIS data. The QuickSet control allows users to use both QuickFeature and GD&T Selection and still have the ability to modify measurement strategies. :: Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence 800-343-7933 hexagonmetrology.us be driven. I've been making precision components all my life, but I'm doing them much better and less expensively today on our CNC Hydromats and CNC Swiss. We got through the recession by remaking Steuby Co. into a parts making machine. Quality is a given. We'll get you your parts when you want them, at a terrific price.
