Horizontal CNC Lathe is Compact and Flexible Okuma America Corp.'s 2SP-150H horizontal twin spindle lathe removes metal in a small space and is used for small-part CNC machining. Accord- ing to the company, the user friendly, front facing spindles allow easy and fast access to the workpiece and tooling. By adding a high-speed, three-axis Okuma gantry loader, parts can be loaded and unloaded automatically. The dual spindles and gantry loader significantly reduce cycle time and maxi- mize productivity. The integral bed and base, cross slide, headstock, tailstock and turret form a balanced structure, the company says. Ballscrews generate slideway movement to both axes. The 2SP-150H is equipped with a 6" or 8" chuck and optional 6,000 rpm spindle speed for maximum flexibility. Okuma's Intelligent Technology Thermo-Friendly Concept is a standard feature. The 2SP-150H has no machine obstructions so chips fall directly onto a perforated chip pan, allowing coolant to flow in to the coolant tank. Three types of inserts are available to meet the needs of many different jobs: a standard wiper insert with an MJ chipbreaker on 90-degree cut- ting edges or with an NMJ chipbreaker on serrated cutting edges, as well as a radius insert with an MJ chipbreaker on large, round corners for edge tough- ness instead of wipers. According to the company, DoForce-Tri can deliver a machined surface using a wiper insert, can reduce cutting force with a serrated insert and can achieve wall accuracy with a straight cutting edge insert. The cutter bodies come in both a shank type in a diameter of 1.25"-1.50" (32-40 mm) and a bore type in a diameter of 2.00"-5.00" (50-125 mm), respectively, available for coarse or close pitched designs.
