PRODUCTS productionmachining.com :: 43 Tools Provide All-Directional Turning Sandvik Coromant Inc.'s PrimeTurn- ing methodology and supporting tools provide manufactur- ers, particularly in the aerospace and auto- motive sectors, with an all-directional turning solution. PrimeTurning allows machine shops to complete longitudinal (forward and back), facing and profiling operations with a single tool, the com- pany says. The methodology is based on the tool entering the component at the chuck and removing material as it travels toward the end of the component. According to the company, this allows for the application of a small entering angle, higher lead angle and the possibility of machining with higher cutting parameters. Furthermore, conven- tional turning (from part-end to chuck) can be performed using the same tools. PrimeTurning will be particularly bene- ficial to manufacturing industries such as aerospace and automotive, where there is a need to perform external turning operations in large batch productions or where multiple setups and tool changes are often required, the company says. :: Sandvik Coromant Inc. 201-794-5000, sandvik.coromant.com Thread Mill Reduces Large Workpiece Costs Walter GB's T2711/T2712 indexable insert thread mill can achieve shorter cycle times than thread milling. According to the company, the T2711/T2712 competes with the productivity of taps on large threads. Designed for use on all materials in the ISO material groups P, M, K, S and H up to 55 HRC, the tools can be used for thread depths of up to 2.5 × diameter and a pitch range of 1.5 mm to 6 mm or 18-4 TPI. Users of the tools will also benefit from high levels of productivity at a lower cost per thread, the company says. In addition, tool life was 540 parts per cutting edge with Walter's T2711 compared with 300 parts with a competitor tool. :: Walter USA LLC, 262-347-2400, walter-tools.com/us
