Multitasking Turning Center Handles Large Parts Okuma America Corp.'s VTM-1200YB multitasking CNC turning center handles heavy-duty turning and cutting of large parts. The construc- tion, rigidity and cutting capa- bilities of this machine make it ideal for machining large diam- eter workpieces, such as those in the aerospace and energy industries, the company says. The turning center cuts a variety of shapes, from turning to slope multitasking. It performs turning, vertical, horizontal and angled surface machining in one operation. The work spindle is supported at two locations by large diameter roller bearings that offer precise control for the production of complex parts. According to the company, the high torque spindle is capable of sustaining heavy cutting that is necessary for large parts such as valve bodies. This machine also comes equipped with the OSP-P300S con- trol, Thermo-Friendly Concept to maintain thermal stability and Collision Avoidance System to prevent costly collisions. :: Okuma America Corp., 704-588-7000, okuma.com CNC Swiss Lathe Cuts and Welds Tsugami Automation's CNC Swiss turn SS207-5AX LaserSwiss is a 20-mm, seven-axis CNC Swiss lathe with two fully integrated SPI lasers, one for cutting and one for welding. The machine is the latest model in the company's Laser- Swiss product line, and the first to include a second laser head for welding. The laser welding head not only allows users to weld two pieces together, then machine them; it allows operators to reflow a swaged tube end, the company says. The laser cutting and welding heads can be mounted on either the X/1, Y/1 or B axes, and all operations are programmed and driven from the machine's FANUC 32i-B control. The nozzle standoff adjustment is also NC controlled, and each laser's frequency, pulse width, focus and power are all on-the- fly adjustable and programmed through the machine's control. According to the company, users can also adjust the assist gas pressure from 5 to 350 psi, allowing different pressures to be used for piercing and cutting, as well as the low gas pressures typically used in welding. Wattage on the lasers can range from 20 to 750, depending on the customer's preference. :: Tsugami/REM Sales LLC, 860-687-3400, remsales.com
