Hybrid Swiss CNC Lathe for Machining Efficiency The Ganesh twin-spindle SL-20Y2 eight-axis 20-mm Swiss lathe addresses the need for completing work up to 3 / 4 -inch diameter efficiently in only one operation with all of the axial and radial milling features accurately timed and deburred. It handles the job without the need for building fixtures for follow-up operations and tying up multiple machines and operators in "Done-in-One" machining efficiency. The SL-20Y2 can be operated with or without a guide bushing, so operators can make the most profitable choice of operating modes to provide the best production solution for each job. The 10,000-rpm main spindle is powered by a 5-hp spindle motor; the subspindle turns at 8,000 rpm and is also 5 hp. There are 30 toolholders supplied with the basic ma- chine, of which eight tools are driven using ER-16 collet spindles. The main spindle can bring 17 tools to work the part, and the subspindle can use 13 tools in the basic machine configuration. Many tooling options are available to address the spe- cific tooling needs of each workpiece. All of the Taiwanese-built Ganesh machines feature a C axis on both the main and sub- spindle for accurately timed axial and radial milling feature placement. A parts catcher and conveyor is pro- vided on all Ganesh multitasking machines to facilitate the careful removal of valuable parts from the machine without any dam- age. A cutoff confirmation sweep-arm switch is provided to ensure that the part was separated from the barstock suc- cessfully. Cutting oil flow confirmation monitoring is provided to ensure that the cutting oil is properly lubricating the cut- ting tools.
