IMTS 2014 PRODUC TS Thread Milling Cutters Resist Tool Breakage Sandvik Coromant Company, Booth W-1500 Sandvik Coromant introduces a range of small CoroMill Plura thread milling cutters intended to counter the threat of tool breakage and component damage associated with conventional taps. Compared to tapping, the thread mills can address a range of hole diameters instead of just one hole size, the company says. The thread mills are said to be able to place threads closer to the bottom of blind holes, ofering more room for chips to fall away and avoiding swarf entanglement around the tool, promoting machine uptime. Designed for milling medical compo- nents, the thread mills are suitable for use with surgical-grade stainless steels and hard cobalt-chrome alloys. They are capable of both right- and left-hand threading in materials with an approximate hardness of 63 HRc. According to the company, the tools can generate threads ranging from 1-64 UNC / 2-64 UNF to 5/16-18 UNC / 5/16-24 UNF, depending on hole depth and material. M1.6-M12 type thread mills are also available.
