IMTS PRODUC TS 68 PRODUCTION MACHINING :: SEPTEMBER 2018 Lead-Free Alloy Offers Versatility for Many Applications Eural USA Inc. | West Building and Annex Level 3 | Booth 431594 Eural has designed its 6026LF aluminum alloy in accordance with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS); End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV); and Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restric- tion of Chemicals (REACH) directives to limit the content of lead in aluminum alloys to 0.40 percent. In addition to providing good corrosion resistance, the alloy has medium- high mechanical properties and is suitable for anodizing, welding and forging. The material is designed for making components used in the automotive, electric, electronic and military industries. The alloy can be machined on high-speed automatic lathes because of its good chip formation. It does not contain tin, which has a tendency to break without previous deformation. It is also available in drawn or extruded conditions. The alloy is said to be a good alternative to brass and many other aluminum alloys. Drill Series Enables Accurate High-Speed Machining Kyocera Precision Tools Inc. | West Building and Annex Level 3 | Booth 432279 Kyocera Precision Tools' DRV Magic Drill series of indexable drills is designed for holemaking in the automotive, aerospace and medical device industries. The series combines a CVD-coated insert on the outside cutting edge and a PVD-coated insert on the inside cutting edge. This enables high-speed machining and drilling precision. The insert chipbreakers improve chip evacuation, and the holder's thick center core provides rigidity. The series can reach depths from 2×D to 6×D. The series includes diameters ranging from 0.625" to 1.000" and from 14 to 32 mm. Four chipbreaker designs cover a range of machining applications. The inserts are designed with four usable cutting edges to reduce machining costs. The outside insert cutting edge has a U- shaped design that provides smooth chip evacuation and compact chips that reduce chip clogging. The inside cutting edge has a spoon-shaped design to reduce cutting forces for smoother chip evacuation even at 6×D drilling depth. The holder body's flutes provide a large web thickness. A high-rigidity holder body with low cutting resistance provides stable indexable drilling. The machine incorporates hot wire laser deposition technology to combine additive processes and programmable welding automation with five-axis machining. An arc torch melts metal wire directly onto a base material or part, even if the two materials (wire and workpiece) are dissimilar. This enables shops to generate precise sealing coatings along with near-net-shape part features or repair components such as impellers, turbine blades, and tool and die parts. The machine's laser cladding head has the same five-axis capability as its milling spindle, providing maneuverability. The platform suits high-volume additive manufacturing and helps to minimize equipment and material costs. The head also incorporates an automatic wire feeder system that feeds welding wire to an argon gas nozzle. The head provides a deposition rate of 3 to 4 lbs/hr and offers a 98 percent material utilization rate. The machine has a trunnion-style rotary/tilt table to process small parts. It also features a Mazatrol SmoothX CNC and MTConnect- compliant features to ease programming and decrease cycle time.
