BROACHING TOOLS CNC Machine Combines Cutting and Welding Tsugami Automation's SS207-5AX LaserSwiss is an integrated welding system. The 20 mm, seven-axis CNC machine integrates two SPI laser systems, one for cutting operations and a second one for welding. Tsugami Automation was formerly Innovative Machin- ery Group, and its products are distributed through its sister company, Tsugami/ REM Sales LLC. According to the company, Tsugami Automation has a range of experience and skillsets in custom tooling, integrated laser cutting and laser welding and the development of mechanical and robotic loading, marking, cleaning, measuring and unloading systems for Tsugami machine tools. The LaserSwiss is the first machine of its kind, the company says. It's expected to provide significant competitive advantages to manufacturers of small precision parts. :: Tsugami/REM Sales LLC, 860-687-3400, remsales.com Turning Grade Resists Wear at High Cutting Speeds The Hoffman Group's Garant HB 7010-1 turning grade was developed to achieve wear resistance at the highest cutting speeds. According to the company, it has a hard, wear-resistant and thermo-resistant CVD coating made of aluminum oxide and titanium carbo-nitride, which protects the carbide sub- strate, even at high cutting speeds and process temperatures. The carbide substrate is particularly resistant to plastic deforma- tion, splintering and brittle fracturing as it is ductile, and the coating is particularly resistant thanks to straightened crystal structures, the company says. Its smooth surface enables optimum chip evacuation via the insert surface and reduces the friction between the compo- nent and the tool material, thus lowering the process temperatures. In contrast to the casing, the core of the indexable insert is duc- tile. The carbide substrate is graded, which means that it has an in- creased proportion of titanium nitride in the outer layer in order to adapt the thermal expansion coefficient to the coating, the company says. As a result, the coating optimally adheres to the substrate and because of the similar thermal expansion coefficient, the coating cannot shear away, even at high process temperatures. :: Hoffmann Group USA 844-448-7725, hoffmann-group.com ATTENTION SWISS MACHINE BUILDERS AND USERS...
